A tumor refers to abnormal growth of cells or tissues. Notably, some tumors are malignant, implying cancerous conditions, while others are benign or non-cancerous.

Cancerous liver tumors often prove fatal due to their tency to spread from another organ into the livera phenomenon termed metastatic liver cancer. Conversely, primary liver cancers that start within the liver itself occur relatively infrequently in the U.S.

Benign tumors pose significantly less risk than their malignant counterparts and are generally not life-threatening on their own. They can be detected during imaging tests such as ultrasounds, CT scans, or MRIs for unrelated conditions.

Hemangiomas, the most prevalent type of benign liver tumor, constitute up to 5 of adult cases in the U.S., with women being more susceptible than men. Women aged between 20 and 30 are predominantly affected by another common benign liver condition called focal nodular hyperplasia FNH.

Hepatocellular adenomas represent less frequent benign liver tumors that typically occur most often among childbearing-aged women, historically linked to the intake of high-dose estrogen in oral contraceptives.

Upon diagnosis, healthcare providers will likely conduct further imaging studies and monitoring as needed for size assessment, consider a biopsy to study tissue samples, recomm surgery if required, and potentially advise on additional cancer screenings like AFP tests or PET scans. They may also investigate whether tumors could cause discomfort.

Clinical trials are research eavors that test new medical approaches in subjects. Before experimental treatments can be tested, they need to show promise in laboratory experiments and animal studies. The most promising ones progress into clinical trials med at identifying innovative methods for safely and effectively preventing, diagnosing, treating diseases or managing complications.

Discuss ongoing trial progress with your doctor for the latest updates on new treatments. Participation in a clinical trial is an excellent way to contribute to medical advancements like curing, preventing, and treating liver disease.
