This interaction triggers an 'off' signal which inhibits T cell activity from attacking and destroying these cells.
Modern immunotherapy has revolutionized the way we treat various cancers through blocking key components of immune checkpoints - proteins such as PD-L1 or CTLA-4. These inhibitors enable reactivated T cells to selectively target cancerous cells by preventing their binding with these regulatory proteins, thereby bypassing suppression signals and empowering the immune system agnst cancer.
