Checkpoints are essential components of the immune system designed to mntn a balance between an active immune response and protecting healthy cells from damage. These checkpoints consist of proteins found on T lymphocytes, which bind with corresponding proteins present on other cells like tumor cells. The interaction ss an inhibitory signal that prevents the destruction of cancer cells by the body's defenses.
Immune checkpoint inhibitors work by blocking this inhibitory process. They are a class of immunotherapies specifically targeting immune checkpoints such as CTLA-4 and PD-L1PD-1 pathways, ming to stimulate T cell activity agnst tumor cells. These drugs inhibit the binding of checkpoint proteins like CTLA-4 or PD-L1 to their corresponding partners on cancer cells.
The use of immune checkpoint inhibitors has expanded with regulatory approvals for treating various types of cancers:

Rash
Diarrhea
Fatigue
Less common but more severe reactions include organ inflammation where the immune system might attack healthy parts of the body instead of just cancer cells.
Skin issues leading to redness, itching, and rash due to skin inflammation.
Lung problems like coughing and chest pn from inflammation in the lungs.
Abdominal discomfort, diarrhea because of colonic inflammation.
Development of diabetes as a result of pancreatic inflammation.
Inflammation within the liver causing hepatic dysfunction.
Pituitary gland dysfunction characterized by excessive or inadequate secretion of hormones.
Myocarditis heart muscle inflammation.
Nephritis with impred kidney function.
Hyperactive or underactive thyroid hormone production issues
Neuromuscular symptoms like weakness, numbness, and breathing difficulties.
